EDITORS' CHOICE: Best Introductory Offer
The Citi® PremierPass(SM) Elite Level MasterCard

The Citi® PremierPass(SM) Elite Level MasterCard® has a special offer that gives you 20,000 points when you use the card for $600 in purchases within 3 months. That is enough to earn a free roundtrip ticket anywhere in the Continental United States worth up to $400 on any airline at anytime. Just check for a fare of $400 or less on Expedia.com, call Citi's redemption center and they'll book the flight of your choice. Or, you can use your 20,000 points for a $200 gift card from your choice of many retailers. You can apply for the Citi® PremierPass(SM) Elite Level MasterCard® using this link.

We generally find the PremierPass card's $400 flight for 20,000 points one of the best values in mileage awards, because there are no restrictions. Simply find the flight you want, and as long as it's roundtrip, $400 or less, and within the U.S. it's yours to book. Citibank then buys the ticket directly on the airline, but deducts your points rather than cash for the cost.

Rewards with similar flexibility in a traditional airline miles program often require 50,000 or more points making this an exceptional value. We were also skeptical about their telephone booking service, but have always found it to be reliable with very short wait times and agents who know exactly how to book the flights.

If you want 2 roundtrip tickets, have your travel companion apply for a card separately.

The credit card carries an annual fee of $75, but the value of the introductory bonus is significantly higher than your first year's fee.

How you earn points
In addition to the generous bonus offer, you can earn points faster than most miles credit cards. $1 spent on the card = 1 Thank You point. "Everyday" purchases like groceries and gas earn 2 points per dollar spent. You also earn points for every mile flown when you use the card to purchase plane tickets< /STRONG> . This is in addition to the miles you earn in your airline's frequent flyer program.

Points aren't just for domestic airline tickets
You can redeem points for flights anywhere in the world, in both coach and business class. As always, you choose the flights and times.

You can also use points for things like statement credit and gift cards at many top retailers giving you maximum flexibility for redemption.

Free companion travel
The card also offers the opportunity to receive a free companion ticket on domestic flights you book with the card. The catch there is you need to purchase your flight at a minimum fare level, so you might want to double check that buying two tickets at the cheapest fare is more than buying one ticket at the higher fare, and getting the free companion ticket.
